It's me, Verician
Every great Dungeon Master has an origin story…
Mine started with: “Wait… so how does initiative work again?”
I’m Verician — a fairly new Dungeon Master (and player) who bravely stepped behind the screen armed with enthusiasm, questionable NPC accents, and a rulebook I definitely read (mostly). I may not have 20 years of campaign scars, but I do have a growing collection of “learning moments”.
By day, I’m a Cyber Security professional. I hunt vulnerabilities, build defences, and stop digital villains from ruining everyone’s day. By night?
I do the same thing… but with goblins.
Turns out DM’ing and cyber security share a lot:
- Players will always find the one exploit you missed
- Someone will try to break the system
- Logs (notes) are essential
- Chaos is inevitable
When I’m not defending networks, plotting narrative twists or rolling for myself, you’ll find me riding motorcycles. There’s nothing like two wheels and open road to clear the mind — except maybe when your players derail your carefully planned story in the first five minutes.
DM Confessions...
✔ I absolutely forget NPC names and panic-invent them on the spot
✔ That “random encounter” was 100% planned
✔ I sometimes fudge rolls… for cinematic purposes
✔ My villain speeches are rehearsed
✔ I Google rules mid-session like a professional
Verician D&D is a place where new players are encouraged, Veteran players still surprise me, nat ones become legendary, and the tavern sometimes has suspiciously important patrons. Everyone should have their moment to be epic.
I’m still learning, still growing and still pretending I planned that plot twist all along. So whether you’re a battle-hardened hero or a level 1 wizard who definitely shouldn’t touch that cursed orb…
Welcome to the realm.
Roll initiative.
